Continental Monterey Grand Prix April 29 to May 1 2016
Car racing has been an entrenched part of the Monterey Peninsula since the Pebble Beach Road Races in the early 1950’s. When Laguna Seca Raceway was built in 1957, professional and amateur car racing became a year round event. Over the years Laguna Seca has hosted CAN-AM, IRL, IMSA, SCCA, Moto GP, IMSA World Super Bike, ALMS and Gran-Am Racing to name a few. The track has grown in length, gained several corners in the infield, and became safer with the addition of gravel traps, but the world famous Corkscrew still endures to this day.
This year, from April 29th to May 1st, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will host the Continental Monterey Grand Prix. The premier races are the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship and the IMSA Continental Sports Car Challenge. These two series are home to the top road course racing teams and drivers, racing in Prototypes, Porsches, Ferraris, Audis, Aston Martins, Bentleys, BMWs, Corvettes, the new Ford GT and more!
1. The best place to view the racing from is either the top of the Corkscrew looking down onto the whole course or just above Turn 2, where you can see several corners and witness close racing through the Andretti Hairpin.
2.Two great racing themed restaurants every race fan must visit are the Baja Cantina in Carmel Valley and Turn 12 in Monterey. They have great food and great memorabilia.
